This was such an inspiring read. I came back from India feeling so full and reset, and you captured parts of that experience in ways I’ve been trying (and failing) to put into words. I wrote a short piece about a spot I loved in Jaipur. Definitely not as reflective as yours, but it shifted how I see textiles, craft, and even the meaning stitched into what we wear. Thought you might enjoy it, here’s the link if you're curious: https://open.substack.com/pub/tangentsandotherdetours/p/worth-the-detour-trust-me
This was such a beautiful read and one that I resonate a lot with. I also have a soft spot for India (actually wrote about how its magic transformed my life recently) and I deeply desire to go back. Travel has the ability to connect us to ourselves, each other and the universe and India is such a magical place for this. Thank you for sharing!
A wonderful article, LIvia, thank you. And so much wisdom from one so (relatively) young. My mother will turn 99 in December; she is Italian and we live near Rome (you and I actually met once - at the Minardi Winery near Frascati I remember your being a vegetarian). Her second husband basically worked all his life in the Indian Subcontinent and my mother fell in love with India and has said that that is her favourite place in the whole world. Sigh. I did a double-take when I read the words Satish Gupta ... it just so happened that a long time ago, back in 2001, I had a best friend who lived in Delhi and my husband and I went to visit her. On one occasion she took us to Satish Gupta's place just outside Delhi; he was in the car with us at one point and I'll never forget the elegeance of a gesture of his. He held a enamelled/lacquered box, removed the top and asked us would we like to eat an Amla, a so-called Indian gooseberry. Very tasty it was too!!! Anyway - keep travelling Livia ... we love reading your tales. Thank you. Josephine
I remember you, Josephine!! How amazing about your mother and her connection to India — there's something about the culture that is very similar between India and Italy, both very warm, unfiltered and honest :) what a beautiful memory of Satish Gupta! There's something so "essential" about the Indian experience.. it's a really grounding place. I hope to cross paths again soon, un abbraccio!!

Thank you so much!! It really is such a transformative place — India seems to destroy you and then rebuild you, all at once. I can't wait to go back!!
A beautiful read Livia and very much on my mind right now! Love these kinds of conversations with strangers and friends alike x
Thank you so much!! I feel like once you've experienced India, it completely transforms you.. I'm sure you feel similarly! So many lessons.. 💛
Absolutely. I feel such a draw to go back and just drink it all in! 🤎
Wonderful article Livia. I particularly enjoyed the conversation with a stranger while watching cricket. Food for thought.
Thank you!! There were so many serendipitous moments on this trip.. so beautiful to feel connected across cultures 💛
